Current 2013 FEKC Champion and JNL Engineering sponsored Oli has switched to a Fernando Alonso kart to contest the 2014 FEKC Junior Max championship, a much more competitive class!
Saturday Practice Day Oli gets off to a great start, gradually getting quicker throughout the day and in the final session he gets to within just 0.015 of a second off his main rival and championship favourite.
Sunday Race Day Oli adapts his driving style well to deal with the increased power from his recently rebuilt & reconfigured motor. He manages to keep his lap times within several 0.10s of the more experienced drivers in all of the three heats. Good racing lines and hitting corner apex points equate to consistent lap times and help Oli qualify in a respectable 6th place in his first dry race of 2014.
He gets a good start and manages to stay with the leading group for a few laps, battles hard and moves up one place to fifth but with the hard working tyres going off and causing loss of grip, is unable to make up any further ground on the leaders and has to defend strongly on the last lap to hold on to his hard won fifth place.
We have learnt a lot this weekend and overall pleased with the result. There are a few improvements to make to the chassis and we will have some upgrades for the next round, (The Southern Championships) so if all goes well we will be quicker and pushing hard for a podium finish at the most competitive round of the year.
